Plummelo Website Upgrade

We are happy to announce that we are upgrading Plummelo.com at midnight (EST) on April 12. So, what does the upgrade include?

1. New Browser Button
The new browser button allows us to provide a better experience for you.

What you need to do

  • First, uninstall your current Plummelo Browser Button
  • -Safari, Firefox: right-click on your current browser button, then select Delete

  • Second, install the new Plummelo Browser Button
  • -Installation the new Plummelo Browser Button from the Installation Page
-Follow the instructions on the page (same as the original browser button installation)

2. Streamlined Recipe Collection
You’ll immediately notice how much simpler it is to collect recipes from your favorite websites. When you select the Plummelo Browser Button, the recipe is immediately saved. You are no longer required to click through four screens before getting to the Save button. We think you’ll really like this feature. You’ll also notice that the recipe image appears immediately (not hours later).

3. Search Is Really Powerful
We’ve made the Search feature much more powerful by better matching your search words. If you want to be very specific and refine the search, just enter all of the words you want to search for. For example, beyond just “chicken,” you can search for “chicken garlic cucumber.” You can even search by what ingredients you already have in the fridge. Try it!

4. Recipe Rating Is Simpler: “Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down”
We received feedback that one user’s 5-star rating is another user’s 3-star rating. This makes it more difficult to figure out whether you want to try the recipe. Our solution: a “Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down” rating system. We converted all recipes with a rating of 3-stars or more to a “Thumbs Up,” and the rest we converted to a “Thumbs Down.”

5. Ingredient Editing: Plain Text Is Faster
Previously, to add or edit an ingredient in a recipe, you were required to enter the quantity, use the pull-down menu to select the measurement, and enter the ingredient text description. Now, we’ve streamlined ingredients by using plain text so that it’s easier to enter and edit.

6. The Svelte Shopping LIst
We improved the printed/emailed shopping list format so that it takes up less paper when printed and less screen space when emailed. We also vastly improved the way ingredients are categorized.
First, we implemented a super smart learning system so that more ingredients get automatically categorized into the grocery store section. This means less work for you.
Second, instead of refreshing the page every time you categorized a shopping list item, you can now categorize a bunch of items, then confirm it with a mouse click so that the entire page updates just once.
Third, if you want double your recipe (or triple or halve), the Shopping List “View by Recipe” feature has a slider that makes it easy for you to select the amount.

There are many other improvements, including overall speed–so go check it out.

Finally, we’ve received many, many requests for more websites to be Plummelo-compatible. We hear you, and we are working hard to release many of those new websites by the end of April. We will announce new additions very soon.

As always, please give us feedback. We love hearing from you, and we definitely want to create a product that you love to use.
